Did you know that several U.S. presidents have brewed their own beer? With Barack Obama being the first to brew on White House grounds (2011). Early American leaders, including George Washington, who famously recorded a “small beer” recipe in 1757, and Thomas Jefferson, who operated a brewhouse at Monticello, were avid homebrewers. Other notable figures include James Madison, who advocated for national brewing. Presidents Known for Brewing Beer: 🍺 George Washington: Maintained a brewhouse at Mount Vernon and his 1757 “small beer” recipe still exists. 🍺 Thomas Jefferson: Experimented with various beer recipes at Monticello, including ales and, in his later years, operated a personal brewery. 🍺 James Madison: A strong proponent of American-made beer who once tried to establish a national brewery. 🍺 Barack Obama: The first to brew beer, specifically the “White House Honey Ale,” on the White House grounds using honey from the South Lawn. While other presidents were known to consume or support the industry, such as Franklin D.
